On September 20, 2025, Stephen McDaniel of the Lambda Sigma Chapter was honored for his induction into the Distinguished Service Chapter (DSC). In a ceremony held at the Renaissance Concourse Atlanta Hotel, McDaniel received his DSC pin and certificate in front of an audience of family, friends, and fraternity brothers.
A few notable Phi Beta Sigma men in attendance were 27th and 29th International President, Hon. Carter D. Womack, 28th International President, William Stanley, International Treasurer Emeritus, Hon. Charles W. Moore, and International Director, Dr. Phillip “Flapp” Cockrell.
The Distinguished Service Chapter is a chapter created in the fraternity in 1929 by Hon. Ivorite L. Scruggs, who was a charter member of the fraternity. Scruggs also served as International President and Editor of the Crescent, the fraternity’s official organ. The Distinguished Service Chapter is the fraternity’s highest honor, and 213 members have been inducted into it for their phenomenal service to the fraternity and community.
Bro. McDaniel was initiated into the fraternity via the Delta Mu (Bowie State University) Chapter in 1970. McDaniel has served as International Second Vice President, International Director of Sigma Beta Clubs, and International Deputy Executive Director. In 2023, he was inducted into the Outstanding Sigmas of the Southern Region.
